Do you ping?

When you publish a post in WordPress, you want everyone to know about it, right?

Well one way that this can happen is for WordPress to tell other sites about the new post – yes, even search engines like Yahoo! and Google.

The setting is really simple to do and does not require you to write any code.

1. Log into your WordPress installation with an administrator account.

2. Open up the “Settings” part of the side bar and click on “Writing”.

Open the Writing settings

3. At the bottom of the next page, you will find an area called “Update services”.

Update Services

4. Here you can enter the so-called “ping” addresses of the sites that you want to notify about new posts.

Here are some ping addresses that you might like to use:

http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2
http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2
http://api.my.yahoo.com/RPC2
http://ping.feedburner.com
http://ping.blogg.de/

If you know of any more that might be useful, let us know in the comments!
