Remove the text title

Having changed the header yesterday, it now seems a bit silly have the title “DIY Blogger” in text above the graphic.  So I’m going to remove it.

TwentyTen with the new graphic and the old titles

One way to do this would be to reduce the size of the title and description in the Stylesheet, but I’m going to be a bit more radical and remove it from the theme altogether.

1. Log into the Dashboard using an administrator account.

2. Select “Editor” under “Appearance” in the sidebar.

Select Editor(click on the images to enlarge)

3. Select “Header (header.php)” in the right-hand column.

Select Header

4. Search for “site-title” and remove the text highlighted in the screenshot below:

5. Click on “Update file”.

Click on 'Update file'

6. The title has gone!

  1. Graham, thanks for pointing the way. These very simple changes are only simple if you know where to look and how to do them. Now I've got the header I want on my theme and it looks great!

  2. Yay! Thanks, Graham! I agree with Sherri that your quick helps are a big help! I changed to a beautiful header. Question: Do I lose SEO strength by taking the readable name of the blog out of the header?

  3. This was a great resource: simple and I didn't wreck anything! See
    Thanks, Graham!

  4. I don't see that SEO would be affected too much, as the title is in the <TITLE> of the page, and if you use something like the AllInOneSEO plug-in it is probably in the META tags as well.

  5. Does this leave your title tag at the top of the browser window?
